Injuries happen everywhere, and hiking is no exception.  Here are some helpful tips for your next hike so you are prepared for the eventual “ouchie”.

You should keep a small first-aid kit with you when you go for a long hike – you can easily cut yourself, get a bug bite, or turn your ankle.

What should I have with me?

  1. Bandaids
  2. Ibuprofen
  3. Antiseptic wipes
  4. Tweezers

Quick treatments for simple problems…

Bug bites: get out your bite lotion and try to not scratch the area affected.  The last thing you’ll want is to scratch to infection!

Cuts: if you notice that you cut yourself make sure you clean the area well with antiseptic wipes and cover with a bandaid.  You may need to use your tweezers to pull out any thorns or debris.

Blisters: there’s nothing worse than having a blister when you’re a couple miles into a hike.  Covering the blister with bandaid can really help your comfort.  DON’T pop the blister!  You can risk getting an infection.
